Doreen was a Registered Nurse and worked at Bismarck Hospital in North Dakota, which is where she met her husband, and worked for him in Terre Haute for many years. She was a proud member of the Nightingales. Doreen was an accomplished artist and had numerous certifications in ceramics and porcelain. She also owned two ceramic shops, The Rock Hinge, in Blackhawk, for many years and one in Terre Haute. She loved teddy bears and porcelain dolls, of which she had a vast collection. She and her husband owned and operated Dogwood Springs Camp Ground, near Cloverdale, for many years as an extension of their love of nature and forest preservation. Doreen was also a long-time member of Blackhawk Community Church and The Way International.
Doreen is survived by her children, Nathan B. Edwards of Cloverdale, Victoria J. Bennett (Todd) of Kansas City, MO, H. Vaughn Edwards (Donna) of Marshall, IL, and Reverend Vernon W. Edwards (Jill) of Columbus, OH; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Nielsen (LeRoy); sisters-in-law, Teresa “Tessie” Schneider, Virginia Schneider, and Maureen Schneider; brother-in-law, Dave Hettesheimer, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Dr. Henry Grady Edwards, sisters, Hilda Remington, Vera Wahl (Duane), Loretta Fischer (Orvil), Ella Mae Silvey (John), and Cleo Hettesheimer (David); and brothers, Irven Schneider, Clifford Schneider, Hugo Schneider, Stanley Schneider, and Robert Schneider.
Visitation, with the Nurses Honor Guard providing honors, will be Sunday February 9, 2020 from 2:00 until 6:00 pm in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with funeral services at on Monday February 10, 2010 at 10:30 am in the funeral home with Reverend Vernon Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
