Gwen Sanders, age 101 of Fayette, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2020. Services will be Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Norwood-Wyatt Chapel with Dr. Ken Dunivant and Pastor Kathy Griffith officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fayette City Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam J. Sanders, Jr. and parents, Clyde Stewart and Alta Roberts Stewart.
Survivors include several cousins, including caregivers, Linda Acker (Joe), and Jimmy (Mary Jane) Dodson and her “Morning View Family”.
Mrs. Sanders was a lifelong resident of Fayette and a retired classroom teacher of forty-two years, having taught forty-one years in Fayette schools. She was an active member of Fayette First United Methodist Church and served on the Administrative Board, was president of the United Methodist Women, and a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Fayette Music Study Club, Progress Club Inc., Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and Fayette County Education Retirees Association.
