Madeline Bugni Bravo
Services: Tues., Oct. 29, 10 a.m.
Rosary will be recited followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Madeline Bugni Bravo, 89, who passed away Oct. 24 in Bakersfield. Father Dan Coyle will officiate with interment following at Union Cemetery.
Madeline was the last living member of the Paul and Catherine Bugni family. Her parents immigrated from Piedmont, Italy, in 1912 and settled in as pioneer dairy farmers in the Pumpkin Center area. Madeline was born shortly thereafter and attended local schools. She lived all her life near Pumpkin Center and was a founding member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Since the beginning of the Altar Society, she had been the only person responsible for sending get-well and bereavement cards to members until a few years ago when her health no longer permitted her to do so. She was also a member of the Italian Catholic Federation.
Zia Madeline was a wonderful cook, cooking in the northern Italian tradition she learned from her mother. For many years she hosted most holiday dinners and special occasions for the entire family. When visiting Zia Madeline, as she was known to family and friends, homemade cakes and cookies were always ready to serve with coffee or a liqueur served in a special shot glass. One never left her home without a full stomach or arms filled. Sometimes both. Although she never had children, she was a mother to all of us.
Madeline was preceded in death in 1982 by her husband Alfred who had immigrated from Ticino, Switzerland. She was a warm and loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews who survive her including Jimmy and Joan Bugni, Paul and Nita Bugni, Joe Bugni, Gary and Larry Bugni, Linda Tosti, Brenda Salcido, Donna Bugni, all of Bakersfield, Gary Bravo of King City; sister-in-law, Pia Bravo of Ticino, Switzerland; grand nieces and nephews in Bakersfield and other nieces and nephews in Italy and Switzerland.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy, Paul, and Joe Bugni, Jefre Bugni, Kevin Haley, Jill Haley, Kellee Bauer, and Kristin Varner. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Bravo and Elmo Poncetta.
Madelines family would like to thank the caregivers at Candlewood Cottage for the loving care extended in the past 8 months, especially Diana.
Visitation will be Monday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.
