(b. @1857), Jonas A. (b. @1859), John (b. 06/02/58, d. 05/08/64), Elwood (b. 04/15/60, d. 06/16/62), Wilson (b. 07/11/61), Frederick (b. @1863), Anna L. (b. 04/12/64), Samuel (b. 07/16/68), 07/23/68), Carrie E. (b. @1870), and Sarah B. (b. @1872). In 1860, he was a farmer living in Toboyne Township, Perry County, and stood 5' 8" tall with brown hair and blue eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg September 2, 1864, mustered into federal service there September 6 as a private with Co. F, 208th Pennsylvania Infantry, and promoted to sergeant September 9. He was wounded during the final assault on the Confederate works at Petersburg, Virginia, April 2, 1865, but honorably discharged with his company June 1, 1865.
