George W. Rathbun 7, son of Robert 6 (John 5,4, Samuel 3, Thomas 2, John 1) and Abigail Rathbun. Enlisted with brothers William and Nathan in the 7th Rhode Island Infantry (1862). Was assigned to Company H. Following the Battle of Fredricksburg, Virginia he was assigned to the 1st Rhode Island Light Artillery (Battery D) with brother John Rathbun. Fought at the defense of Fort Sanders in Knoxville, Tennessee and at Cedar Creek in the Shenandoah Valley. Following the war was discharged after rejoining the 7th Rhode Island. He was married to Alice R. Spencer and they had four children.
