Betty was born July 30, 1920, in Winona, Minnesota to Frederick and Ada (Hammann) Nytes.
Betty was a graduate of Winona High School and St. Theresa's College in Winona.
She later earned her Master's degree in Library Science from Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
On February 9, 1944, in Charleston, South Carolina, she married Edward Joseph Miller, USN, who she had met at a college basketball game.
Son James Edward was born in February 1945 in Flint, MI, where Betty was working as librarian at Buckley High School.
She and Jim returned to Winona, waiting for Ed to return from World War II. After his return in early 1946, they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In June 1947, Ed re-entered the Navy and the family moved to Norfolk, Virginia, Cleveland, Ohio, Washington, DC, San Diego, California, Philadelphia, and Mechanicsburg.
Along the way she worked for various libraries, including the State Library in Harrisburg, and the East Shore Area library in Colonial Park, there as the head librarian.
In 1982, she and Ed retired to Palm Coast, Florida where she served as librarian.
They moved in 1992 to Freedom Plaza, Sun City Center, Florida, and then in 2016, she and Ed moved back to Mechanicsburg.
Betty and Ed celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in 2019.
She enjoyed cruising, reading, volunteering and entertaining her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, in July 2019 and grandson, Brian Edward, of Camp Hill, who passed away in March of 2018.
She is survived by their son, Jim Miller and his wife, Carol, of Camp Hill, and their three children: two sons, Scott and his wife, Christy, and their two children, Ashley and Ben, of Dillsburg; Tod and his wife, Kara, of Imperial, and a daughter, Karen Marinari, her husband, Dan, and their son, Gio, of Ijamsville, Maryland.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 10th, 2020 at 11:30 AM at the Rolling Green Cemetery Chapel, Camp Hill.
Interment will be at Rolling Green Cemetery next to her husband.
