Late in the night on Monday, Mark V. Walker, 67, of Liverpool, NY peacefully passed away at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. He bravely lived with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and departed this world in peace in the presence of family at his bedside. On November 7, 1952, Mark was the 6th son born to Eileen (Hyland) and Edward Walker, sharing an incredible bond with all his brothers throughout his life. He has maintained the close friendships forged during his grade school years at Most Holy Rosary in Syracuse. After graduating from Corcoran High School, Mark embarked on his lifelong career in the medical profession, serving in the United States Air Force as a surgical technician while stationed in Albuquerque, NM. After completing his service, Mark returned home to Syracuse, NY where he met the love of his life, Barbara (Deskiewicz) Walker. They married and settled into raising their two children, Patrick and Emily, in Liverpool, NY. Mark happily dedicated his professional life as a surgical technician in the Syracuse area - including at Madison-Irving Surgical Center, Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists, and finishing out his 50 plus year career at the Syracuse VA Medical Center in December 2018. Mark will be remembered fondly for his quick-witted sense of humor, contagious laughter, comforting smiles, and his favorite meal: peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. He was an avid outdoorsman and a voracious reader. He was also an incredible baker, creating world-class cakes for every occasion. He was an adventurer who enjoyed traveling (always opting to take the scenic route), but whose home was securely rooted in Syracuse, NY. Mark was predeceased by his parents, Eileen (Hyland) Walker and Edward Walker; and brother, Thomas Walker. His memory will continue to be cherished by his adoring wife, Barbara (Deskiewicz); children, Patrick Walker, of Baltimore, MD, and Emily (Andrew) Dolloff, of Liverpool, NY, along with his 2 grandsons, Brody and Hudson Dolloff; his brothers, Jim (Miriam) Walker, of Teneak, NJ; Jack Walker, of Syracuse, NY; William (Sandy) Walker, of New Hartford, NY; Robert (Nancy) Walker, of Syracuse, NY; Daniel (Linda) Walker, of Syracuse, NY; Elizabeth Walker of Syracuse, NY; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 State Rt 31 Baldwinsville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 12:00 pm at Most Holy Rosary Church 111 Roberts Ave, Syracuse, NY 13207. His ashes will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mark's name to the ALS Association Upstate New York Chapter at 135 Old Cove Rd #213, Liverpool, NY 13090.
