Mary Shope Stockton, 86, of Middle Skeenah Road, Franklin, died Friday, July 16, 2004, in a local hospital. She was a native of Macon County, a daughter of the late Ed and Elizabeth Ledford Shope. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Her family said she was an avid gardener and loved landscaping.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years Mack Carl Stockton, one daughter, Dorothy Stockton Fields and husband Tommy of Fayetteville, Ga.; one brother, Woodrow Shope of Franklin; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Stockton Houston; three sisters, Mae Shope Ledford, Agnes Caldwell and Nell Ledford; and two brothers, Prelo Shope and John Shope.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 18, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Brooks and Rev. Eddie Stillwell officiating. Burial was in the Church cemetery. Pallbearers were Scott Fields, Chad Fields, Todd Houston, Spence Ledford, Keith Shope, Gerald Sanders, Bobby Shope and Wade Shope.
