Leah was the first daughter of Philip and Diadem (Daugherty) Hockman. She married (Francis) Marion Fravel, a 33 year old school teacher and farmer, on Oct. 17, 1869 in Mineral Co., by Rev. Letherman. Her husband was born on May 16, 1836 in Woodstock, Va. and was the son of Moses B. and Eliza Fravel of Edinburg, Va. Leah was his second wife, as he was the widower of Mollie Sprinkle of Harrisonburg, Va.
Marion served with Co. "C" of the 7th Va. Cavalry during the Civil War. Aprivate, he initially enlisted for 12 months on Jul. 16, 1861 in Edinburg Va. Just as Ebenizer Carruthers (his brother-in-law), he also had a horse disabled by enemy fire, but unlike Carruthers, he received no recorded compensation.
He subsequently taught school for fifty years, 22 in West Virginia schools, and retired to Lantz Mills, Va. where he led a quiet life and died Apr. 7, 1906. He is buried in the Union Forge Cemetery, Lantz Mills, Virginia.
Leah and Marion lived in Slanesville and Lantz Mills. Leah died at her home near Augusta, W. Va. probably of Influeza.

Her children:

1) Charles Nelson Fravel (1870-1959)
2) Lena May Fravel (1872-1951)
3) Aldine Sanford Fravel (1879-1887)
