Dewey Edward Crews, 90, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at home under the care of GHC Hospice.

Dewey was born on June 22, 1929 in Screven County, Georgia to the late Harley Edward and Minnie Viola Crews. He spent his early years in Brantley County and worked as a salesman for a tobacco company eventually retiring in 1992. Dewey was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Jesup where he attended the Joy Sunday School Class. After retirement, he and his late wife, Hazel, enjoyed traveling and had taken several trips out west with their camper. He volunteered countless hours with the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary after the death of his wife in 2013. The volunteers became his second family and he truly loved the time they shared together while helping others. In addition to his parents and his wife, his sister, Ruth Rozier, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Carmen and David Brake of Jesup; one grandson, Kevin Brake and wife, Terri; one great grandson, Austin Brake; one great granddaughter, Madison Brake and one adopted granddaughter, Crystal Forde.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2020 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Reverend Byron Scott officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Gary Middleton, John Middleton, Keith Middleton, Charles Lewis, Barrett Smith and Tony Rowell.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Volunteers, the Joy Sunday School Class of First United Methodist Church and the staff of GHC Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to GHC Hospice Foundation P.O. Box 15665, Savannah, GA 31416.
