Obituary for L.R. "Buddy" Johnson from Morning Star Newspaper, Harlingen, Texas:

L. R. "Buddy" Johnson, 82, passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 1998 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 16, 1915, at Woodworth, N.D., to Roland and Alma Johnson. He lived in Harlingen since 1932 and was previously from Albert Lea, Minn. He retired from Boy Scouts of America after 55 active years, including 25 years as camp ranger at Camp Perry.

He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church. Buddy made and gave away thousands of wooden Nativity scenes.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Charline Smith Johnson of Raymondville, whom he married March 12,1937; three children, Nancy Louise and husband Don Johnson of Bedford, Charles and his wife, Gloria Johnson of Baton Rouge, La.; Judy Baugh of Harlingen; five grandchildren, David, Wayne Johnson of Fort Worth, Craig Baugh of Tacoma, Wash., Eric Baugh of Forth Worth; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vivian Paine of Harlingen and Adeline Reichle of Corpus Christi; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation hours will be Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, from noon to 9 p.m. at Buck Ashcroft Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcroft Funeral Home on Monday, Aug. 31, 1998 at 10 a.m. with J.D. Hausenfluck and the Rev. Randy Marrs. Interment is to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Ernie Melhorn, Darwin Bishop, Jim Hand, Chris Boswell, Dick Ross, Bill Hubbard and Al Roiz.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
