Port Leyden, March 17—Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Russell, Port Leyden, received official word Wednesday that their son, Cpl. Edward W. Russell Co. L. 376 Inf. Regt., is missing in action, over Germany, since Feb. 24.
He left for overseas Jan. 7, 1945.
A native of Port Leyden, he received his education at Port Leyden Central school.
Dec. 17, 1943, he married Miss Bessie Lee Ball of Virginia, who now resides with his parents here.

Port Leyden Rites Conducted For Returned War II Veteran

PORT LEYDEN — The body of Cpl. Edward W. Russell who was killed on the beach head of the Sarrb River, Germany, Feb. 25, 1945, arrived here yesterday afternoon and was taken to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Russell, Pearl St.
A military escort accompanied the body here.
Cpl. Russell was born Aug. 15. 1924, at Port Leyden. He received his education at the Port Leyden Central School, and in 1942, enlisted in the Air Force. He trained at the Douglas Air craft Factory, Santa Monica, Calif., and from there went to Florence, S. C. While at Florence he married the former Bessie Lac Ball.
In November, 1944, he was transferred to the Infantry and went overseas in January, 1945.
He is survived by his parents; a son, age four years, who resides with his grandparents; and two sisters, Mrs. Albert Toth, Lyonsdale; and Mrs. Terry Leggio, Tarrytown. Also two brothers, William, Boonville, and James Andrew, Pomona, N. Y. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 p. m. at the home of his parents, with the Rev. Lucy Earl and the Rev. George Buhl, officiating.
Lyons Falls Post, 1162, American Legion, conducted military rites at the grave in Port Leyden Cemetery. Bearers were members of the American Legion.
