Vernon Randolph Sexton, Sr., 92, of Bluewell, WV passed away on Monday, February 3, 2020 at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, WV. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy and served his country proudly for twenty years. Upon his retirement from the military he worked as a bus driver and was also a coal miner for Consol. He was an active member of the Princeton Church of God for many years. He was most known throughout the community for singing and playing the harmonica. If you did not know him, you had probably heard him singing.

Vernon was born on October 26, 1927 in Pageton to the late Gwyn Sexton (1900-1985) and Ethel Edna Taylor-Sexton (1906-1996). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Bell Blankenship-Sexton (1932-2004) whom he married on December 24, 1950 in McDowell County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, McDowell County, WV, 1950, Page 419, Application Date: December 16, 1950); and his siblings, Lucille Sexton-Cochran-Davis (1925-2013), Violet Sexton-Massie (Deceased), and William "Vaughn" Sexton (1942-2017).

Survivors include his daughters, Kathy Sexton-Fowler of Bluefield, Kay Sexton-Hackney & husband Larry Hackney of Fredericksburg, VA, and Janet Sexton-Woolridge & husband Richard Wooldridge of Bluefield, WV; sons, Vernon Randolph "Randy" Sexton Jr. & wife Lisa Sexton of Princeton, and David Sexton & wife Lisa Sexton of Princeton; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren with one on the way; brother, Rev. F. D. "Mickey" Sexton & wife Shirley Sexton of Beckley, WV; and sister, Frances Sexton-Phillips-McDaniel of Radford, VA.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Princeton Church of God with Rev. F. D. Sexton and Rev. Fred Farley officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard.
