A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at 2:00 P.M., at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne for George Melancon, Sr., 81, who passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at 2:15 P.M. at Lafayette General Hospital in Lafayette.

Fr. Bordelon, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne will be officiating for the services. Burial will be held in St. Joseph Catholic Church New Cemetery in the Mausoleum.

Survivors include one daughter, Gayla and husband, Ronald Alleman of Duson; two sons, T-George and wife, Lesslie Melancon of Rayne, Gerard and wife, Annette Melancon of Scott; his companion, Betty Michaud of Rayne; and the mother of his children, Ruby Melancon of Rayne; three sisters, Georgia and husband, Edison Mier of Rayne, Alice Knowles of Rayne, Majorie Lavergne of Rayne; five grandchildren, Georgette, Mandy, Jansen, Jonas and Alayna; six great-grandchildren, Drew, Abby, Jayden, Emmitt, Jacey, and Isley.

Mr. Melancon never met a stranger. He enjoyed talking and meeting people. He loved telling jokes and making people laugh. He was a policeman for four years before becoming Chief of Police for Rayne and served that position for sixteen years.

Mr. Melancon was preceded in death parents, Lenis and Bella S. Melancon; one daughter, Gazelda Ann Melancon.
