Mrs. Lucy Davies Dead After Long Illness
Mrs. Lucy Marshall Brooke Davies, widow of the late Arthur Pryor Davies, died at her home near Gloucester C. H. Tuesday night at 10 p.m., after a long illness. She was 81 years old. Funeral services will be held today Thursday at 3 p.m., at Ware Church.
Mrs. Davies was the daughter of John Lewis Brooke and Maria Louise Ashby, and was born Feb. 14, 1848, in Fauquier County,. She had been a resident of Gloucester since her marriage in 1874 to Mr. Davies. She leaves one sister, Agnes Brooke Wise, of Richmond; her cousin and adopted son, Neal Reade, of Gloucester, and five nephews and nieces residing in Norfolk: Tazewell Taylor, A. Brooke Taylor, Southgate Taylor, Selden Taylor, Douglas Brooke and Mrs. R. M. Wilkinson.
Mrs. Davies had been an invalid for the past eleven years, during all which time she was faithfully nursed and attended by her adopted son, Neal Reade, who was at her bedside at the end.
Active and honorary pallbearers at the funeral this afternoon will be as follows: Active – W. C. Stubbs, Jr., J. E. Cox, Clifton Streagle, J. H. Martin, J. C. Corbell, H. E. Hutcheson; honorary – J.
