Sydney Watts Johnson, 82, of Hickory, passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2019, at Carolina Caring Hospice House, surrounded by her family. She was born Sept. 5, 1936, in Gaston County. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister; and a friend to all. She touched the lives of all who knew her and our beautiful memories will be forever cherished. She was a devoted member of Sweetwater Baptist Church for 41 years, and served the ministry with a special dedication to teach children the love of God. She was the daughter of Charles and Mabel Watts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Dwight and Jack Watts; and sister Venetia Watts. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Johnson of the home; sisters, Ruth Underdown and husband, Gene, and Billie Sue Taylor; sons, Jerry Johnson and wife, Cathy; Tim Johnson and wife, Cindy; daughter, Laura McRee and husband, Jeff; grandsons, Eric Johnson and wife, Amber, Patrick Johnson and wife, Rachel, Hayes and Neil Johnson, and Cody McRee; granddaughters, Casey Efird and husband, Joel, Caroline, Claire and Halle Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Pierson Johnson, Joel Efird III and Brooklynn Efird. A receiving of friends will be held at Sweetwater Baptist Church at 4 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 21, with a celebration of life to follow. There will be no graveside service.
