As a child, Janet enjoyed being involved with the South Side Settlement House. She obtained her cosmetology license and worked as a beautician at Mr. Perry's Beauty Salon on Livingston Avenue for several years before moving on to own Mocha Beauty Salon on E. Long Street.
She is preceded in death by parents, Josephine and Lee Western; brothers, Lawrence Western and Joseph Western.
Janet is survived by siblings, Diana Jackson, Eugene (Yvonne) Western, and Donna Jones; children, Sandra Western, Cynthia (Charles) Flewellen, Scott Western, Kim (Karen) Western, Tina (James) Martin, Delores Western, Lorraine Western (Spencer) Fountain, and Sharon Freeman; grandchildren Aaron, Morgan, Matthew, Dwayne, Anesha, Omar, Gavin, Alexander, Corbin and Keenya; numerous great-grandchildren, loved ones and family friends.
