Thomas "Evan" Merrill, 29, of Charleston, SC formerly of Linville Falls, NC passed away at University Medical Center in New Orleans, LA on Monday, November 14, 2016.

He was the son of Jackie Leagon and Bryan Merrill.

He attended Avery County Schools and graduated from Avery County High School in 2005. He also attended Mayland Community College.

Evan obtained his Maritime Professional Training in 2012. Soon after, Captain Evan established his own fishing charter company, Fly Fishing Charleston. All the while, he was a Field Manager with Field Scout Co. representing Yeti and other brands. Captain Evan also worked seasonally for several years with Dave Duncan and Son, Ltd., as a fly-fishing guide on the Karektok River in Alaska.

Evan is survived by his parents Jackie (Jeff) Leagon of Conover, NC and Bryan (Chesley) Merrill of Linville Falls, NC. His brother Ethan (Amber) Merrill of Gulfport, MS and sister Audrey Leagon of Conover, NC.

He also leaves his maternal grandparents M.C. and Barbara Morgan of Palm Coast, FL and paternal grandparents Bob and Shirley Merrill of Morganton, NC.

He is also survived by his two nieces Peyton and Avery Merrill of Gulfport, MS as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, wonderful friends, colleagues and his beloved canine deckhand Josey Wales.

There will be celebration of life gatherings at Evan's favorite places sometime in the future during which his ashes will be scattered.
