(Synopsis written on 6 August 2022 by contributor 51140211, a grandson of Herrick)

Professor Greenleaf : Herrick obtained his Ph.D. in mathematics from Boston University, but was equally interested in music. After instructing at Boston University for a short period in 1921, he, Blanche, and their first daughter Betty moved from Winthrop, MA., to Greencastle, IN., where Herrick and Blanche spent most of their lives. He sought to teach both mathematics and music at DePauw University, but was told he must choose only one department. For 42 years he was a professor in the math department, 35 years as the department chairman, beginning as acting chairman in 1928 when Professor Wilbur Vincent Brown retired.

Greenleaf surname : Herrick's grandfather Calvin Greenleaf had five boys live to adulthood to continue the Greenleaf surname. Herrick, the only male child among his parents' five children, not foreseeing having any more children, was rather disappointed the first few hours after his twin daughters were born. He had 13 grandchildren, 10 boys among them, but no Greenleafs.
— Herrick's grandfather Greenleaf didn't fare much better. Only two Greenleaf men were Among his 12 great grandchildren. I do not know how many living third cousin Greenleaf's I may have.
