Sarah Jane Nichols, 91, of Kansas, Illinois, passed away at 5:49 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2020, at Horizon Health Paris Community Hospital. She was retired after many years as a secretary with the Kansas School District.

She was born October 24, 1928, in Edgar County, Illinois, the daughter of the late Robert and Lola Beatrice (Fitzpatrick) Arterburn. She married Forrest Eugene Nichols on January 25, 1952, in St. Petersburg, Florida. He preceded her in death October 22, 1998.

Survivors include a son, John (Sharon) Nichols; two grandchildren, Dustin (Shannon) Nichols and Chelsey (Matthew) Shafer; and four great-grandchildren, Camden and Peyton Nichols and Foryst and Waylon Shafer, all of Kansas; as well as nieces and nephews Jim (Marianne) Lauher, Marilyn (Larry) Coartney, Cindy (Rick) Borup, and Camille (Fred) Peiring, and their families. She was preceded in death by a son, Bill Nichols; two sisters, Edith Duffy and Mary Ellen Lauher; and two nieces, Linda Coffey and Deanna Fleischman.

Jane attended Ashmore Baptist Church with her family. She enjoyed playing cards and loved spending time spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
