Carl William Grove, 75, of 1417 Rosser Ave., died at his home near Waynesboro, VA on Tuesday morning.
He was born in Augusta County, July 21, 1909, a son of the late Charles J. and Elta Cox.
He was a prominent farmer in Augusta County and was a director of East Augusta Mutual Insurance Co., Virginia Shorthorn Association, Valley Feeder Pig Association and was a supporter and leader in other agriculture-related organizations in the county and state.
He was an active member of Mt. Vernon Church of the Brethren.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Yagel Grove; two sons, Cleon J. Grove of Waynesboro and S. Glenn Grove of Fishersville; two daughters, Mrs. Darryl (Mae) Andrews of Greensboro, N.C., and Carolyn Grove of Graham, N.C.; two brothers, Paul H. Grove of Waynesboro and Wilbur G. Grove of Lawnsdale, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Earl (Willie) Houff of Waynesboro; three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Vernon Church of the Brethren, conducted by the Rev. Del Keeney with burial in the adjacent cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be George Coyner Jr., Jimmy Gwyne, J. Earl Kindig, Bill Patterson Jr., Otis Fisher, Wayland Garth, Jerry Swisher and Henry Appl.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Woodworth, Jimmy Ballew, Fred Shultz, Johnny Forbes, Carl T. Wheeler, Bob Deputy, Latane Trice, E. B. Craun, Frank Clements, J. Earl Wampler Jr.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of donations to Mt. Vernon Church of the Brethren, Route 4, Box 233, Waynesboro, Va. 22980.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at McDow Funeral Home.
Additional honorary pallbearers will be: John R. Garber, R. M. Godsey, Jack Hughes, Edward Coiner and Paul Hollinger.
