His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal, with Father Carl LoPresti officiating. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Entombment will be at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
He was born August 6, 1932 in Ottawa, son of Millard and Gertrude Churchill Hume. He married Jane P. Lepper on June 18, 1955 in Ottawa. She preceded him in death on June 2, 2013.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Roger.
Surviving are five children, Cindy Hume, Amy (John) Dwyer, Scott (Barb) Hume, Stephen (Sherri) Hume and Jonathan (Kristy) Hume and 14 grandchildren. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren and one sister, Martha Jahnke.
He is a United States Navy veteran, where he was stationed as a dentist in San Diego, CA. Dr. Hume practiced dentistry for over 45 years and was owner and operator of Hume Dental Associates in Bloomington. After his retirement, he enjoyed working as a ship dentist on Holland America Line for 4 years. He was past president of the McLean County Dental Society, the Lions Club and the Young Men’s Club. Dr. Hume enjoyed sailing and was proud to have built his very own sailboat. He loved to travel and he also kept very active with snow skiing in Colorado, scuba diving, camping in his Airstream and golfing. Along with his wife, Jane, Dr. Hume had a great passion for antiquing and together they owned the Village Peddler.
