Maurice Deon Lewis passed this life on Thursday, January 23, 2020.

Maurice was born on July 6, 1962 in Danville, Illinois, to the late Gene and Georgetta (Wright) Lewis. He was married to Cindy (Dailey) Lewis, a union that lasted until the day she passed this life.

Maurice grew up in Danville and attended Danville schools. Anyone that knew him knew that he was a lover of animals. He considered his animals his babies and spent a great deal of his time with them. Maurice loved his family and loved any opportunity to spend time with his family. He was also a lover of people and enjoyed spending time with friends and singing karaoke. Maurice was an extremely talented poet. He was also very smart, no one could beat him in a game of Scrabble or Words with friends.

Maurice is survived by those that he loved dearly, his daughter, Mariah Lillard of Danville, Illinois; sisters, Babette (Ivan) Leek, and Cathryn Lewis-Lillard, both of Danville, Illinois; two special cousins, Christina Brooks and Laura Brooks, both of Danville. Illinois; uncle, Roland Lewis of Champaign, Illinois; nieces and nephews, Shawn Leek, Marcus Leek, Damon (Veronica) Leek, Alauna (Marlan) Brown, and Ashley (Damieon) Shaw; 16 great nieces and nephews and a great deal of friends and extended family.

Maurice will be greatly missed by all who loved him, including his pets Lady, Bandit, and Jethro, and a number of other pets that he opened his home to and fostered.

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a sister, Charlea Lewis; a nephew, Keynon R. Maurice Lewis and two special cousins, Vincent and Tony Brooks.
