Carolyn Joyce Williams Strode was born in Barren County, Kentucky, to Charlie and Elva Williams, July 15, 1929.

She met her future husband, Wilborn, for the first time while riding the bus to Temple Hill High School and it was love at first sight. Their relationship matured over the next decade, surviving his service in World War II and her completion of bachelor and master degrees at Western Kentucky and the University of Kentucky. After marrying in June, 1955, she supported her husband by teaching while simultaneously completing her second master’s degree at Memphis State, as he attended medical school.
In 1958, they moved to Nashville and she became involved in community organizations as he began his medical career prior to beginning their family in 1959. Carolyn enjoyed leadership in Medical Auxiliary of Davidson County, Belmont University as Trustee, Belmont Aid and others, while rearing their three daughters, Martha Kate, Sarah Lynne and Nancy Elizabeth.

She continued to be active in First Baptist Church, the Next Door and Garden Club amongst others, while enjoying her wonderful grandchildren, Rachel Elizabeth, John Sterling, and Rebekah Lynne McCoy and Harrison Allen and Jonathan Strode Comish. While Carolyn and Wilborn were overjoyed being grandparents, they were also blessed with precious great grandchildren, Luke Ryan and Levi Sterling McCoy.
