Ruth Hortense Shipley, 82, of Palm Springs, Calif. and formerly of Lubbock died Nov. 22, 2006, in Mansfield. She was born Sept. 16, 1924, in Crosbyton to the late Mike and Fannie Brady and she lived in Lubbock most of her life. She was married for fifty-six years to Alton Shipley until he passed away on Nov. 16, 1998.
In 2005, Ruth sold the family home of 43 years and moved to Palm Springs to live with her third son. She was visiting Mansfield, when she suffered a stroke and died after several weeks in hospice care in the home of her eldest son.
Mrs. Shipley is also preceded in death by one son, Gary Shipley.
Survivors include: three sons, Jerry Shipley and wife Ardith of Mansfield, Les Shipley and wife Joellen of San Diego, Calif., and David Shipley of Palm Springs, Calif.; six grandchildren, Kurt, Kelly, Sara, Brian, Kevin, and Ethan; four great grandchildren, Lacy, Lindsey, Taber, and Ella; a brother, Thurman Brady of Raleigh, N.C.; and a sister, Fleda Hardin of Lubbock.
Memorials may be made to Integra Care Hospice, 315 Harwood Road, Bedford, TX 76021.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Pastor David Savage officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Family will receive friends today from 6 until 8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home.
