George Harrison, 96, of Bluefield, WV passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at his residence. George had been a resident of Bluefield, WV for the past seventy years and was a Charter Member of the First Baptist Church of Bluewell. George was a retired Coal Miner and member of the UMWA. He also served as the Bluewell Public Service District Commissioner for thirty years.
George was born on July 3, 1923 in Freeman, WV to the late Steve Harrison (1879-1966) and Katherine Yanco-Harrison (1885-1945). In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his three brothers, Steve Harrison (1920-1925), Frank Harrison (Deceased) and John Harrison (Deceased); and his one sister, Annie Harrison-Reid (Deceased).
George is survived by his wife Mary Stella Harrison of the home; one daughter Carolyn Harrison-Shumaker of Princeton, WV; two grandchildren, Tina Bailey Mitchell, and Leah Ann Wimmer & husband Tim Wimmer; four great grandchildren, Justin Burnette & wife Kat Burnette, Heather Key & husband Matthew Key, Brittany Williams & husband Tanner Williams, and T.J. Wimmer; two great great grandchildren, Cayden Key and Zander Key.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 2:00pm at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV with Rev. James Milam officiating the service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluefield, WV.
