Matthew J. Murphy, 94, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at the James G. Johnston Nursing Home. He was predeceased by his former wife Regina Murphy; daughter Kathleen Murphy; step son Kenneth Travis. He is survived by his wife Karen Murphy; sons and daughter in law Matthew II and Maria, Michael and Martin Murphy; daughters Regina Watrous and Alexandra Murphy; step sons and daughters in law Mary Travis; Jiggs and Deborah, Joseph and Bonne, Richard and Mary Jo, Jay and Lori and Toby and Tannia Travis; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. He served in the Army during the Korean War as a Master Sergeant. While in Korea, he we captured and held 33 months as a Prisoner of War. When he returned to Binghamton, he continued his career in the Army as a Recruiter until retirement. Matt and Karen dedicated their life to helping others fostering special needs children, giving them the love and support needed. They would eventually find time to travel cross country to visit many places and family along the way. His love and support to his country and community will always be remembered.
