James "Jimmy" Ray Murphree, 89, husband of Bea Poston Murphree, cast his line in the rivers of Heaven Sunday, January 26, 2020.

Born in Greenville, Jimmy was the only son of the late Bruce and Fay Murphree. He grew up in the Paris Community and enjoyed many adventures as a child exploring the grounds of Camp Sevier, the World War 1 training camp in his back yard.

Jimmy served in the US Navy on the USS Noble during the Korean War. Afterwards, he worked in radio and television repair, until he became the owner of Murphree Furniture in West Greenville. He was a faithful member of West Greenville Baptist Church.

An avid fisherman, Jimmy found great joy in the waters of SC lakes, where no big-mouth bass was safe from his skills.

In addition to his loving wife of 69 years, Jimmy is survived by his daughters, Jill Murphree Furcron and Jamie Miller (David) of Greenville, and his son, Jay Murphree (Karen) of Atlanta, GA. He was a loving grandfather to Jay and Karen's children, Max, Ava and McCall Murphree.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. at Graceland Cemetery West.
