Janet Sue Ernst Higgins, born September 23, 1958, in Honolulu, HI, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her sister and her two close friends Cathy and Teresa on January 25, 2020, in Gulf Breeze, Florida after a lengthy illness. She had resided in Pensacola and later Gulf Breeze for all of her teen and adult years. She was born to the late Vince and Jean Zellmer Ernst, in addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first Husband, DeWitt McMullen, two sisters, Joan Ernst Howell, Katherine Ernst Bonifay and her maternal & paternal grandparents. She is survived by her sister, Theresa Ernst, of Gulf Breeze.

Janet was a loving soul who never knew a stranger. She enjoyed the beach, sunrises & sunsets, snow skiing, and taking cruises with her sister Theresa to the Caribbean. She was a graduate of Gulf Breeze High School, class of 1977, where she was a member of the Gulf Breeze High School Chorus ensemble and the team captain of the riffle team where she was awarded the first ever given scholarship to the University of Southern Mississippi rifle team. She also attended Pensacola Junior college where she studied accounting and office management. She was a member of Coastline Calvary Chapel, where she accepted Jesus. She will be sorely missed by her many friends and neighbors.

A service to honor the life of Janet will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Coastline Calvary Church, in Gulf Breeze, with Pastor Joe Prestridge, officiating. Graveside service will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, in Gulf Breeze. The family will receive friends from 9:00am-10:00am on Wednesday prior to the service. Active pallbearers will be as follows, Lee Ferguson, Billy Martin, David Yeager, Jimmy Falbo, Tony Skaggs and Paul Womack. Honorary pallbearers will be, Dave Clark and Jerry Smith.
