Shirley Brooks was born on July 20, 1926, in Marshalltown the daughter of Floyd and Leah Brooks. Leah died shortly after her birth. Shirley was raised by Stella and Robert Brothers.
On June 2, 1946, Shirley married Fred Naylor at the Iowa River Church of the Brethren. Shirley worked at Commercial State Bank as the Executive Secretary to the President, and she retired in 1991.
Shirley enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking and baking (fried chicken and pies where her specialty), bowling. She was a cat lover. She was a devoted member of the church and was the pianist and organist for 50 plus years, as well as, a member of the Ladies Aide. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Shirley will be remembered for wearing her "bling" and being a classy dresser, which matched her personality.
Shirley is survived by her children, Jennie (John) Johnson of Ankeny and their children: Aaron (Alicia) Johnson with Cal and Camryn and Dana (Todd) Johnson-Strother and their children: Haiden and Gable; Sue (Jeff) Westberg of Coralville and their children: Jennifer (Sean) Marietta-Westberg with Rafael and Rebecca and Amy (Brian) Boelk with Taylor, Kinnick, Carver and Rediet; Lindsay Naylor of Marshalltown and his son Nathan Naylor with Dylan; Robin (Mike Eilander) Naylor of Ankeny and their children: Brook (Jacob) Otto with Gabriel and Lily, Teale Burford (Drew Westberg) with June and Michael and Derek Eilander; Shannon Naylor (Rod) Chyma of Marshalltown and their children: Lucas (Ashley) Chyma with Abel and Lincoln and Leah Chyma. Shirley is also survived by her sister Dianne Collier and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by Fred, her husband of 70 years; her parents; brothers and sisters; and her son-in-law, Mike Burford.
