US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1844 and opened a law practice in New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania. From 1850 to 1853, he was District Attorney for Perry County. In 1859, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-sixth Congress serving until 1861. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law. He was the presiding judge of the Pennsylvania ninth judicial district, 1871 to 1881 and solicitor of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company from 1886 until his death.
