Kelly Eugene Griffin, of Rome, GA, lovingly referred to as “Pops”, age 72, passed away Friday afternoon December 18, 2015, in the comfort of his home.

Kelly was born in Rocky Face, GA on August 4, 1943, son of the late Guy C. Griffin and Edna Arnold Griffin. He moved to Rome about the time he started second grade grew up and around Rome and northwest Georgia. He was a graduate of East Rome High School where he met his future loving wife, Mary. After high school, Kelly joined the United States Army where he worked as a helicopter mechanic during the Vietnam War in 1966-67. He and Mary married shortly after he returned home and they experienced many adventures before settling back in the Rome/Armuchee area. Throughout his life, Kelly experienced many highlights in his life. The adoption of his son, Jeff, and the adventures they shared, his many excursions as an avid golfer, being a husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his grandson, Grant Chenney Griffin of Rome, a daughter-in-law, Blaise Griffin of Rome; 6 nieces and nephews; two brothers-in-law and many great-nieces, nephew and close friends. Kelly was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mary Lucille Green Griffin in 2010; his son, Jeffery Chenney Griffin in 2003; two aunts and four uncles.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home. The family received friends on Tuesday from 12 noon until the funeral hour.

Those serving as pallbearers were his grandson, Grant Griffin, nephews, Carson Green and Ed Green, and friends, Jackie Warner, Danny Howell, Danny Jenkins and Doug Tumlin.

Flowers were accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Homestead Hospice, 1 N. Tennessee St., Cartersville, GA 30120 or Trinity United Methodist, 606 Turner McCall Blvd., Rome, GA 30165.

Per Kelly’s request, all attendees proceeding to the cemetery in procession will drive their own car.
