Bertanus E Midge was born in 1881 in Oakland township, Freeborn County Minnesota.
His father Christian Ivarson Midge (Midje) was 33 years old, and his mother Randi was 31 when he was born. His parents immigrated from Norway to the USA back in 1870 shortly after they were married.
Bertanus also known as Bert according to most documents was the 6th child of 10 born to Christian and Randi. He spent his younger years growing up in Freeborn County Minnesota, going to church and helping with the farm work.
When Bert was 25 years old he Married 22 year old Mary Berg in Freeborn county Minnesota, on December 13, 1906.
Bertanus and His wife Mary moved to Montana sometime between 1906 and 1910 where they bought some land in Nashua to farm and raise a family 18 miles southeast of Glasgow in Valley county Montana. The two would have 5 daughters together during their time in Glasgo.

In 1925 tradgity strikes the family again when their first born daughter Gladys passes at age 14 as a result of diabetic coma.
In 1930 Bert was about 48 years old still farming with his wife and daughters in Glasgo, but those were tough times for a lot of people. Which may be the reason why the family made the move further east to be closer to his brothers in Galata, Toole county Montana some time prior to 1940.
In 1940 Bert was 59 years old he would work when he could as a farm laborer about 12 weeks out of the year, census records show he was a widow and lived alone now and rented a small home near the family farm in Galata. Two years later he will be “unable to walk very good” at age 61 when he filled out a ww2 draft registration card. And four months after that
Bertanus Ed Midge would die on July 6th 1942 from Diabetic Mellitus, He was 61 years old.
