Thursday, November 4th, 1948 - Friday, January 17th, 2020
Evelyn Bernice Jackson, was called home January 17, 2020. She was 71 years old. She was born on November 4, 1948, bringing much joy to the late Harland and Bernice Jackson.
In 1995, tragedy struck when Evelyn suddenly lost her eldest daughter, Gwendolyn Bernice Sheppard.
In her younger years, Evelyn loved going to the beach, sun bathing, crabbing, hosting BBQ’s, cooking and just living life to the fullest. She loved her oldies but goodies.
Evelyn was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, cousin and auntie. Her day started with phone calls from her daughter and baby sister, Darlene, whom she spent a lot of time with. Evelyn enjoyed nothing more than her family. She cherished every moment she spent with them. She especially adored her grandchildren. Evelyn was the most loving, caring, kindest person you would ever want to meet.
Evelyn was a dedicated employee. She worked at the Lewes Head Start, as a teacher, for some years. She was also employed at the Edward W. Pyle Center, where she retired after 26 years of service.
In addition to her parents and daughter, Evelyn was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Tony Sheppard and sister, Vonnieta Y. Burton.
Evelyn is survived her daughter, Tyniece Y. Stokes; adopted son, Shemarr Ayers; two grandchildren, Frederic O. Young and Timmarrius Stokes-Perry, whom she helped raise; three siblings, Jerry L. Jackson (Violet), Darlene L. Sprill (Raymond) and Donnieta E. Witke (Ronnie); her beloved canine companion, Boo-Boo; along with several nephews, nieces and cousins.
