He was the son of Capt. James & Rebecca (Wheeler) Minott. On 7 MAR 1731/32, he married Sarah Prescott. After her death on 22 MAR 1736/37, he married Dorcas Prescott who died 16 JUN 1803 .

Here lies interred the Body of
DEACON SAMUEL MINOT,
who died March 17th AD 1766, in
the 60th Year of his Age. he was
virtuous and exemplary in his
Life and conversation, discovered
himself a friend to the cause and
interest of religion, was patient &
resigned under his ilnes and
advice and counsel, & manifested
a steady hope in the mercy of
God thro a Redeemer.
