Daughter of Alicia Jaramillo Melendez and Pio Osorio Rojo. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1965 and lived with her Aunt Luisa Aylas in northern Virginia, helping raise her cousins. Later, she worked as quality control assistant for the Marriott Corporation when she met her husband, Walter Lee Reed. They were married in 1972 and worked together for the Washington Post until retirement in 2008. She was preceded in death by many relatives in the 1970 Ancash earthquake. She is survived by her husband of nearly 48 years; daughters, Karen Dessart and Sabrina Fountas, and their husbands, Baudouin and John; grandchildren, Juliana, Daniella, Maxim, and Christian; brother, Ernesto Osorio Jaramillo; her aunt, Luisa Aylas, and her children, Martha, Ella, Elisa, Jackie, Patricia, and Lenny.
