Mr. Joseph Lawton Mixon, Jr., 68 of Blackshear, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 23, 2020, at his residence.

Born in Norfolk, VA on January 20, 1952, he had lived in Pierce County most of his life. Mr. Mixon was a 1970 graduate of Patterson High School. He had worked for the former Nimmer Chevrolet in Blackshear prior to going to work for General Housing from where he retired. Mr. Mixon was a hot rod lover and builder and especially proud of his ’72 Plymouth 340 Duster. He also loved to hunt, fish, cook, play golf, and spend time with his family. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was a son of the late Joseph Lawton & Mildred Jones Mixon, Sr.

Survivors include his daughter and her fiancé, Alysia Mixon and Neal Murray of Blackshear; his son, Mitch Mixon of Blackshear; his sister, Sandra Mixon of Houston, TX; two brothers, James Ricky (Cynthia) Mixon of Midway and Randall A. (Vickie) Mixon of Lynchburg, VA; two grandsons, Abel Carroll Murray, and little Stanley Lawton Murray who is expected to arrive in March; the mother of his children, Geraldine Mixon of Waycross; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

The family will have a visitation for Mr. Mixon on Sunday morning, January 26, 2020, at 11:00 o’clock at the funeral home.

There will be no public service.

Memorialization will be by cremation.
