Jessica Michelle (Calaway) Shaw, aka Baybay, 36, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo., surrounded by family and friends, after a courageous four year battle with breast cancer. Jessica was born in Hereford, Texas, on August 28, 1982, to Jim Calaway and Ruby (Pistek) Lindsay.

She started out stubborn, being almost a month late and weighed a solid eight pounds and a half -ounce. Jim and Ruby were unaware of the warrior spirit their little girl held.

They left Texas when Jess was three to head for the Plains of Kansas where she began school at Greenlawn, then moved to Baxter Springs (Kan.) schools before her third grade year. Jess was a beautiful, shy young lady. Though if you were fortunate enough to become her friend early or late in her life, she was the truest of friends.

She graduated from BHS in 2000 and was voted most attractive in her class. She was known not to want to "waste her make-up" on school days, which some weeks that seemed like very few of the actual five that she made. She did have a habit of skipping, because she loved making up time with Mrs. Blankenship. However, she was at school enough to catch the eye of her soul-mate, Jason, they even attended his senior prom together.

Though their roads were both broken, Jason and Jess ended up at Walmart at the same time in 2006. Jess was so excited to meet back up with the man she had been known to "stalk" with Stacey, her best friend in high school, that she left with nothing, and Jason left with a blue comb that Brylee Dawn had picked out for him.

Falling in love with his girls came easy to Jason. They dated while Jess finished her nursing program at Franklin Tech. They had their son Grayson, a beautiful wedding and extraordinary love for each other and their children.

Jess worked her days in the nursing field with much compassion and selflessness. She had a time that she worked for several doctors until she finally found her "home" at work with Dr. Lacey and his staff. She loved her crew and held much admiration for Hugh and Susan, they were her extended family, truly, we know that God placed her in their office so purposefully.

Jessica is preceded in death by great-grandparents, Robert and Emmagene Calaway, Cecil and Myrtle Atchley, Edith Henson; great-uncles, James Lee Calaway, Bobby Pistek; and nephew, Luke Shaw.

Jessica is survived by her husband Jason, daughter, Brylee, and son, Grayson, of the home. Her father, Jim Calaway; her mother and husband, Ruby and Rusty Lindsey; grandparents, Bobby and Shirley Calaway, Verl and Fran Henson; sister, Rebecca Calaway; niece, Kaytlyn; nephew, Ethan; brother, Dustin Lindsey and Clara; father- and mother-in-law, Clyde and Patti Shaw; brother- and sister-in-law, Travis and Casi Shaw; nephews, Drake and Cooper. Along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and family.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, October 15, at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, Kan. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, October 14, at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel. BHS volleyball team and Cailey Woznick will serve as honorary pallbearers for the services.
