Charles Scott Cale, Sr., 72, of 8353 Longstreet Lane, Suffolk, VA, died Wednesday afternoon, January 22, 2020, in his home where he was cared for by his family.
Mr. Cale was born in Bertie County, North Carolina, on March 24, 1947, and was the son of the late Thomas Charlie and Vivian Hoggard Cale. A retired Controller with DaiEi Papers Company in Chesapeake, he had previously worked for 30 years as an Accountant with Union Camp/International Paper in Franklin.
A faithful member of Reynoldson Baptist Church, he was a Trustee, a Deacon, had served as the church treasurer for over 35 years, was a Sunday School Teacher for both the Youth and Adult Men’s classes, and had been a RA Leader and boys basketball coach. Other enjoyments included his membership in the Somerton Hunt Club, where he served as the Treasurer for over 50 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby, Tommy, and Pete Cale.
Different names to his different family members and friends, he was known as Charles, Dad, Caleb, Gramps, Mitch, and Charlie Boy. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Joyce Hardee Cale; two sons, Charles Scott Cale, Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Gates, and Robert Paul “Robbie” Cale and wife, Cynthia, of Suffolk; two sisters, Judy Wallace of Colonial Heights and Ginny Cale of Virginia Beach; and four grandchildren, Walker, Kasey, Cooper, and Kenzie Cale.
Following a private burial in the church cemetery, funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Reynoldson Baptist Church and will be conducted by Pastors Cody Brinkley and Burt Pearce. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church immediately following the service, or all other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Reynoldson Baptist Church, 73 Reynoldson Road, Gates, NC 27937.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Sile, the Virginia Oncology staff, and Medi Home Health & Hospice, for the care and support given to both their loved one and to them during this period of illness.
