Neal Brabazon, born August 8, 1923 in Oshkosh to Hale and Gladys (Moore) Brabazon passed away in Boise, ID surrounded by his family on October 25.

Growing up during the Great Depression helped to shape Neal. From both his family and the economic circumstances of the time, Neal learned compassion, self-reliance, and the importance of hard work. His great sense of humor and optimistic nature were also defining characteristics of this wonderful man.

When news of the Pearl Harbor attack was announced, Neal enlisted in the U.S. Army. During World War II, he served honorably with the 5th Army in Africa and Europe. In addition to helping win the war, he won the heart of his future wife, Clara Chelli of Florence, Italy. Their marriage and deep love lasted over 65 years.

Neal and Clara were modern day pioneers, who wanted to explore our country beyond the Midwest, looking for a better life for their young family. After graduating from the NID, Neal, Clara and their children lived in several states before putting down roots in California, their home for over 50 years. They both worked very hard to provide opportunities for their three children that they were unable to have when they were young. Their children, Nancy, Carol and Brian, admire them immensely and are grateful for their life-long efforts.

When Clara became ill and until her passing in 2010, Neal became her primary caregiver, even though he had serious health issues, too. He lovingly took care of her at home, attending to all of her needs, always with respect and her dignity foremost in his mind. He was such a great role model for his children and grandchildren. Just like their song, "Side by Side," we believe that on October 25, 2015, our mother, Clara, came to meet our father, Neal, to accompany him to heaven side by side. We shall miss him greatly, but are comforted that he is with our mother and God.

Neal was preceded in death by his wife, Clara, his parents, Hale and Gladys Brabazon, and his brother, Vernon.

Neal is survived by his daughters Nancy Wood, Carol (Sam) Stewart, son Brian (Cynthia) Brabazon, six grandchildren Neal (Cyndi) Wood, Hillary (Chris) Smith, Erik Stewart, Kirk (Nikki) Stewart, Wynn (John Bommelman) Brabazon, and Mathew Brabazon, eight great-grandchildren Zachary, Kaden, Jeremy Wood; Cody, Ava Smith; Ariana, Savanh, Olivia Stewart, sisters-in-law Tina Gemignani and Rosina Peth, and many loving nieces and nephews.
