Bernice C. Otte, 87, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Columbus Transitional Care and Rehabilitation.
Mrs. Otte was born February 25, 1932, in Wilmington, Delaware, the loving daughter of Horace M. and Frances Warren Chalfant. On October 26, 1984 in Wilmington, Delaware, Bernice married Donald Lee Otte; he survives.
Mrs. Otte was a medical secretary for many years. She was a former member of Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus and was a current member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Columbus.
She loved to walk, watch and feed birds and she had a special passion for her dogs over the years.
Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Donald; her brother, Paul Chalfant of Wilmington, Delaware; sister-in-law, Nancy Chalfant of Newark, Delaware; niece, Renee (Robert) Baker of Middletown, Delaware; nephews, Scott Chalfant of Newark, Delaware and Matthew (Melanie) Chalfant of Wilmington, Delaware; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Otte was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Frances Chalfant and a brother, Horace “Bucky” Chalfant Jr.
The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. (Noon) Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; the Reverend Scott Roberts will officiate.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 10:30 a.m. until service Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Otte will be laid to rest at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Seymour.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
