Obituary for Dan Johnson

Dan Ray Johnson was born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma on July 20, 1942 to Ray E. and Gladys Baily Johnson. He was quickly nicknamed “Boonie” by his father, due to him weighing 12 lbs at birth. He grew up in Pawhuska and developed his talent for singing. At the age of 12, he gave his heart to the Lord and loved to sing gospel music in church. Later in life, it was his thrill to sing in a Southern Gospel Quartet. At the age of 12, Dan got his first job as a newspaper carrier for the Pawhuska Journal Capital. He and his cousin, Bill Hahm, used to ride their bicycles all over Pawhuska and they liked to fish off the low water bridge.

Dan graduated from Pawhuska High School in 1961 and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to attend Tulsa Drafting and Design College for 2 years. Upon graduation, he moved to Hutchinson, Kansas and worked for Cessna Aircraft designing hydraulic systems. In 1965, he married Sharon Forrester of Tulsa, Oklahoma and they continued to live in Kansas.

In 1969, they moved back to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he was employed by Unit Rig and Equipment. In 1970, his only child, a son named Danny was born. He spent the next 16 years working at Unit Rig designing hydraulic systems on giant earth moving equipment for the mining industry.
