Brenda Carol Shumate Vann age 71 passed away Thursday morning January 23, 2020 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

She was born July 31, 1948 in Leland, MS the daughter of the late James Arnold and Gladys Lucille Pritchard Shumate. She grew up in Oakfield, TN. She married Roy Leon Vann in 1962 and they made their home in Jackson. They moved to Medon in 1987. Mr. Vann died May 28, 2019 after fifty-seven years of marriage. She worked as a custodian for the Jackson Madison County School System at East Elementary School for about fifteen years. She was a member of the Pinson Church of God and was very active in church. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Vann is survived by three sons, Timmy Vann (Keyda) of Pinson, Kenny Vann of Medon and Terry Hardee of Parsons; two daughters, Tina Grooms (Greg) of Jackson, Cindy Vann (Rudy) of Medon; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; three brothers, James ‘Buck’ Shumate, Jr. of Humboldt, Billy Shumate (Karen) of Jacks Creek and Jimmy Shumate (Kandee) of Jackson and four sisters, Anne Lively of Jackson, Sherry Hardee of Jackson, Pat Moore (David) of Jackson and Debbie Mulliniks (Willie) of Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roy Leon Vann and a son, Jackie Leon Vann.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Jason Creasy officiating. Burial will follow at Cave Springs Cemetery.
