He was married to Celinda E. Rice (Rea) December 11, 1872. Thirteen children were born. His wife and nine children survive. Namely: Mrs. Mayme Lathrop, Mrs. Alma nolan, Clayton, Arthur, Garfield, Frank, Samuel, Killy, and Fanny. Also surviving is Anna Routt, whom he raised from infancy.
