Carl Maynard Jensen

Carl was the middle son of Carl & Clara Anderson Jensen. Born in 1926 near Hardy, Nebraska, the family moved to Eugene in 1936 to escape the dust bowl. They became farmers in the Danebo area.

Carl graduated from Eugene High in the class of 1944 and went on to serve in the US Army (1951- 1953). Carl married Marjorie Cross in 1955 at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Eugene, OR.

Carl was a man of many skills. He helped on the family farm, he built houses and bridges, he did landscaping with 2 of his cousins and another time with his father in-law. Carl had a 40 plus year career as a fire fighter. He was a charter member of the Bethel Danebo Fire Department. Carl joined the Eugene Fire Department in 1967. Children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends visited Carl at the station and have favorite memories and pictures before his retirement in 1987.

Carl and Marjorie enjoyed the retirement years together. Traveling, visiting friends and family. They loved to spend time at the coast. Carl was an active member of his church for 83 years. Throughout the years Carl served in many capacities around the church; the last one being to help maintain the church park.

Carl’s parents and older brother, Merrill, preceded him in death.

Carl and Marjorie have four children: son Ed and wife Julie Jensen; daughter Joyce and husband Mike Gower; son Keith and wife Laura Jensen; and daughter Susan and husband Curt McClure. They are blessed to have nine grandchildren: Ben, Crystal (Jason), Eric (Jenn), Kara, Erica (Jacob), Allan (Kristen), Natalie, Luke and McKenzie. Five great grandchildren, Carter, Mallory, Lyla, Audrina, and Vincent. He was also survived by his younger brother, Paul, of Eugene.
