Reverend Joel Nathanael Brown, 54, Minot, died Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Mayo Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN.

Joel was born April 29, 1965 in Hayward, Wisconsin, to Rev. Roy and Vernis Brown. He was raised with his 3 sisters and 6 brothers in Edgemont, SD. He graduated from Edgemont High School in 1983, where he played basketball, football, and baseball. He began his secondary education at the South Dakota School of Mines. He later moved to Stillwater, OK to continue his education at Oklahoma State University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources.

Joel was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Deidra, on August 25, 1990 in Stillwater, OK. Shortly after, Joel attended Bible school and became an ordained minister at RHEMA Bible Training Center. In 1995, they moved to North Dakota to pioneer a church and make Minot their home, where they would raise their five children. In 2008, they became members of Calvary Church in Ryder, ND. There he served as an occasional guest minister and helped lead Sunday School for adults and youth. Throughout his years, he mentored, encouraged, and pastored so many of us, always pointing us to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Joel's greatest joys were spending time with his children and grandchildren, and drinking Chick-fil-A lemonade. He will forever be remembered by his goofy personality and bringing a positive influence to everyone around him. "It's not goodbye, it's see you later."

His loving family includes; children, Michaiah (Brandon) Hamel of Bismarck, Salem (Cameron) Dostert of Bismarck, Nathanael (Mikayla) Brown, Josiah Brown & Jason Brown all of Minot; grandchildren, Jaime, Emma, Jensen, Beau, Tatum, & Dak; mother, Vernis Brown of Edgemont, SD; siblings, Rachel Lathrop, Tim Brown, Sharon Brown, Pauline Trotter, Mark Brown, Jonathan Brown, David Brown, & Thad Brown.
