Alys Joanne VanNote, age 87, daughter of Joseph Lester and Mary Virginia (Price) States was born October 16, 1932 in Clarksville, OH. She passed away January 19, 2020 in Houston, MO.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; and a step-grandson, Chad Wade.
She is survived by four children: Robin Prewitt (Clifford), Delma Geisler (Rick), Leslie VanNote (Shirley), and Chaney VanNote; seven grandchildren: Geoff Prewitt, Heather Easley, Jamie Sue Merckling, Joey Booker, J.R. VanNote, Gary Lee VanNote, and Shane Wade (step grandson); and nine great grandchildren: Kaitlyn Siegle, Robert Easley, Lane VanNote, Gabe VanNote, Camryn VanNote, Peyton VanNote, Austin VanNote, Stetson Merckling, and Karissa Merckling.
Joanne grew up in Clinton County, Ohio. She attended Clarksville Elementary School and graduated from Blanchester High School in 1950. She married Lee VanNote of Houston, MO in 1952. Lee was stationed at Clinton County Air Force Base in Wilmington, OH. He was later stationed in France, where they lived for three years.
Joanne was an excellent seamstress, worked for the Houston School system, H.D. Lee Company, and at one time the owner of a dry-cleaning business.
She was involved in her church as a Sunday School teacher, member of the choir, and song leader. She was a foster mother, and a good friend and neighbor to many, including Mary and John Barnes.
