He was born, August 25, 1933 and was the son of the late Dewey Absher and Sadie Shortt Absher. Hurley worked for many years as a coal miner at Seaboard for Pittston Coal Company and was a proud member of the UMWA Local# 1727. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. He had attended the Raven Assembly of God and was a lifelong resident of the area.
In addition to his parents Hurley was proceeded in death by his loving wife, Frankie Vandyke Absher; sisters, Dorothy Absher, Thelma Cordill and brother, Earl Jr. Absher.

Funeral services for Hurley Edward Absher will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 24, 2020 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Barry Absher officiating. The UMWA Chaplain Corps will conduct their Memorial Light service prior to the funeral service. Entombment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be J.R. Absher, Mike Absher, Rick Davis, Jamie Hurt, Joseph Mitchell, Gordon Russ, and Darrell Keene. The family will begin receiving friends on Thursday evening at 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
