Dorothy Rhea Neitzel Jensen, age 97, went to be with her Lord Saturday, January 18, 2020. Dorothy was born on January 22, 1922 in Langston, the daughter of Archie and Mary (Mamie) Cannon. She graduated from Lakeview High School, class of 1939. She attended Montcalm County Normal and received her teaching degree from Central Michigan University. She taught in rural area schools and several years at Lakeview Elementary School. She also helped organize the Junior Primary class at Lakeview. Dorothy retired after 36 years of teaching. After retirement, she served as Treasurer and Trustee for Pine Township for eleven years. She was an active member of Lakeview United Church of Christ and active in Lakeview Senior Citizens. She enjoyed cooking, baking, cleaning, attending grandchildren and great-grandchildren activities and sporting events, and playing euchre. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Lyman Neitzel and Don Jensen; brothers, Mortimer Cannon, Marvin (Doris) Cannon, and Melvin (Doris) Cannon; sisters, Margarite (Harry) Crandall, and Leona (Vic) Black; step-daughter, Dana Urban; and sisters-in-law, Bernice Jensen and Charlotte Kruger. She is survived by two sons, Marvin (Janice) Neitzel and Alden (Sharon) Neitzel; son-in-law, Ronald Urban; grandchildren, Michele (Tim) Rood, Brent (Tara Sloan) Neitzel, Lisa (Tony) Parsons; and Lori (Brian O’Dell) Neitzel; great-grandchildren, Ian Rood, Megan Rood, and Katy (Henry Harris) Arnold; sister-in-law, Irma Wilson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 am prior to the funeral service. Rev. Roger LaWarre will serve as officiant. A luncheon and time of fellowship at the funeral home will immediately follow the service. Private interment will be in the spring in Riverside Cemetery, Langston. Memorial contributions may be given to Spectrum Health Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
