Tom was born to Thomas Withers Mellor and Selma Evered Campbell, the youngest of three siblings. Selma moved with her younge children to Salt Lake City, where she met and married Keith Jensen and Tom graduated from Granite High School. He then continued his education at University of Utah. Tom was a Ute’s fan and an overall sports enthusiast, through and through. He met and married Donna Johnson and for a time shared in raising her children, son Tommy and daughter Debbie. After divorcing, Tom began working as a sales rep for a beauty supply company and in 1968 he met his sweetheart, Verna Sharon Johnson, who was working as a cosmetologist. On January 14, 1972, Tom and Sharon were married and later sealed for eternity on February 10, 1982, in Idaho Falls temple. They raised five sons, Robert, Kevin, Paul, Jonathan and Todd. Tom was extremely proud of his sons and all of their individual accomplishments in life and especially the families that they raised. Tom worked for Sears Roebuck for a few years before becoming an insurance agent for Farm Bureau of Idaho, where he served his clients diligently for 27 years. Tom was an avid fisherman. If he wasn’t on the water in a fishing boat that he had purchased for a “deal”, he could be found in the yard fixing one up to turn for a profit. He also enjoyed tying flies and selling them. But Tom’s true passion in his golden years was attending any event where his grandchildren were involved. His days and weeks were planned around the events of his grandchildren’s lives. He lived to support his grandchildren from the stands, even when it became difficult for him to leave his home he made the effort to be to as many of his grandchildren’s events as possible. Whether it meant just parking as close to the fence within sight as possible or barely making it to the first row in the gym, he made every effort possible to support his grandchildren. He was their #1 supporter in this life and we know that he is continuing that role in his next adventure as well. Tom was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings such as Scouts, Elders Quorum, High Priest Group and on the High Council. His testimony of the plan of salvation was a main topic on his lips during his last memorable days. He looked forward to his “next adventure” saying “Well, it is what it is” and would describe his joy and excitement at being reunited with friends and family, especially his “Dear Mother”. But he was most excited to know that he would never miss a grandchild’s game or event again. Survivors beside Sharon included: sons Robert (Heather) of Firth, Kevin (Brenda) of Shelley, Paul (Mary) of Firth, Jonathan (Amber) of Idaho Falls and Todd of Murtaugh, ID; sister Diane Jacobi of SLC; children Tommy Mellor of Spanish Fork, UT, and Debbie Mellor of Blackfoot; and 21 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren. Preceding were his mother, father, step-father and brother Mike. Funeral services held at the Goshen Presto Ward Chapel at 792 North 1090 East.
